Our yards and gardens are a source of pride and joy for many of us. It can be very frustrating, then, if after spending a long time making this area our own little paradise, it gets attacked by some type of wildlife. While we enjoy all kinds of wildlife normally, it can be a different story when an animal decides to set up home on our property. To get rid of such pests, a natural reaction might be to spray the area with chemical, but are there any other, more natural, deterrents we could use? Let’s look at a few different options:
An important first step is to find out what kind of animal, rodent or insect it is that is invading our space and causing damage, by doing this we can work out what things will act to deter it. Its also good to be aware of what is attracting it to your property, usually the reason is that there is a good source of food or shelter. Try to identify the food source that appeals to it the most. You might find that this is certain kinds of plants or shrubs found in your yard, so you may want to remove them from your landscaping.
Something else you can try is some kind of barrier designed for keeping out wildlife. If this is not effective enough, then what about a repellent placed around the perimeter? This does not necessarily need to be chemical but could be a visual deterrent or even a noise that scares them.
If you have tried all these options and are still cannot deter the animal, then it might be best to capture it and relocate it out of the area. Before you do this, though, contact your wildlife or animal control agent to see if that is the best thing to do. When it comes to living with different types of wildlife on your property, you might find that it is easier to put up with them than go through all the hassle of getting rid of them. Perhaps its not really worth all the effort.
